Google Currents

Google has done it again and created a hot new app. It’s called Google Currents. This new app allows you to bring your favorite publications, blogs, and news updates to your tablet and smartphone. Similar to the current mobile news apps such as Flipboard, Zite, and Instapaper, Google Currents shows the stories in a nice, clean layout similar to a newspaper.

But unlike other news apps, Google Currents allows you to choose what you want to read and what is shown in your library. These different news sources are called “Editions”. You can subscribe to any edition. You can add them from two different sources; Published Editions and RSS Feeds.

The app allows for very easy sharing. It will share with with all of your current allowed social media sites on your mobile device. The program also allows for an optional E-mail opt-in for user to do. This is a great feature for start-up businesses with Editions.

If you’re a company looking to take your blog and turn it into an Edition for Google Currents, it’s quite simple. Click this link, and follow the simple directions to get started. If your a WordPress Blogger, you’ll need to know two things. First, Google Currents will need to know your website address. For most sites you would use your regular address, but for WordPress Users you’ll need to use your RSS feed address. For example:

Second you’ll need to log-in to your Google Webmaster Account through Google Currents and copy your “Meta-Tag”. Place this meta-tag in your WordPress Account by going to “Dashboard” and then clicking on the “Tools” tab in the menu bar. Then place your meta-tag in the Webmaster Tools Box.
